Outdoor Cinema
Watching a film together outdoors has something special about it. We build a complete open-air cinema at your location, with a large screen, sharp picture and sound that reaches the whole space, tuned to the light and the weather of the evening.

Watching together under the open sky
Something happens when people watch a large screen together outdoors. The surroundings fall away, everyone’s attention turns to the same picture, and a shared moment takes shape that is hard to create indoors. That is why an outdoor cinema works beautifully for a corporate event, a neighbourhood evening or a summer gathering. We build that experience for you from start to finish, so all you have to focus on is the atmosphere and your guests.
Speaker Verhuur Amsterdam provides open-air cinemas on location in Amsterdam and the surrounding area. We come to see the site, think along about the setup, and make sure the picture and sound are right at the moment it gets dark and the film begins.
Screen and projector
The choice between a projection screen with a projector and a large TV display depends on your location and the light. Projection gives a large picture that looks its best once it is truly dark. A large TV display stays bright even at dusk and is less sensitive to ambient light. We advise you on which solution suits your site and timing, and you can read more about those considerations under image, screens and projection.
Whatever you choose, we make sure the picture is large enough for your audience and stays sharp all the way to the back row.
Sound that reaches the whole site
Outdoors, sound behaves differently than indoors: there are no walls to reflect it, so it has to reach further without distorting or becoming too loud for the surroundings. We choose a sound setup that carries evenly across the entire site, so the film is easy to follow both at the front and at the back. You can read how we approach this under sound and intelligibility.
Light, dark and the right moment
An outdoor cinema comes alive in the transition from light to dark. We match the start time to nightfall, so the picture comes up beautifully at exactly the right moment. Around the screen we deliberately keep the ambient lighting low, so the picture does not wash out. If you want a festive touch before or after the showing, we can look at party and ambience lighting that dresses up the site without disturbing the film.
On-site setup and attention to the weather
We build the entire cinema on the spot, whether that is on a square, in a garden or in a courtyard. We look at the surface, the space, the power supply and where the audience will sit, and make sure everything stands securely and safely. Afterwards we collect it all again.
Working outdoors means accounting for the weather. We discuss in advance how sensitive your location is to wind and rain and think along about protection or an alternative moment, so you are not caught by surprise. For a raised setup or a neatly finished viewing area, we can also add staging and finishing.
Our experience comes from hundreds of events through SpeakerVerhuur.nl. That routine helps especially outdoors, where not everything is fixed in advance.
No technical knowledge required
You do not need to know how a projector works or how to set up sound outdoors. You tell us where and when you want the showing and for how many people, and we take care of the rest: the advice, the delivery, the setup, the operation during the evening and the collection. If something is urgent, we are directly reachable.

Screen and projector
Depending on the space and the light, we choose a projection screen with a projector or a large TV display, so the picture stays sharp and bright even at dusk.
Sound across the site
A sound setup that reaches beyond the front row, so everyone follows the film clearly without it being too loud for the neighbours.
On-site setup
We build everything on the spot, whether that is on a square, in a garden or in a courtyard, and make sure it stands securely and safely.
Weather and timing
We match the start to nightfall and think ahead about protection from wind or rain, with a plan in place if the weather turns.
Frequently asked questions
What time can the film start?
You need darkness for a good picture, so the start time depends on the season and the moment it gets dark. We look together at the best start time for your date and location.
What happens if it starts to rain?
We discuss in advance how sensitive your location is to weather and think along about protection or an alternative moment. That way you are not caught out if the sky turns.
Can an outdoor cinema go on any site?
On most sites, yes. We look at the space, the surface, the available light and the power supply, and adapt the setup accordingly. A square, a garden and a courtyard each call for something slightly different.
How many people can watch?
We scale that with the size of the screen and sound. From an intimate showing in a garden to a larger neighbourhood event with many visitors, we tune the setup to your audience.
Do you also arrange the film itself?
We take care of the technology for the showing. You arrange the choice and the rights to the film yourself, and we make sure the picture and sound are then perfect.
Do you also work outside Amsterdam?
Yes. Amsterdam is our starting point, but we build an outdoor cinema just as easily in Amstelveen, Diemen, Haarlem, Hoofddorp, Zaandam, Almere and further afield in the region.
