Vocals, guitar, bass and drums have to blend into the room, while the musicians hear themselves clearly on stage. Sound that suits a live band
A live band makes different demands on the sound than a speaker or background music does. There are more sources at once, from drums and bass to vocals and keys, and together they need to form a full mix that fills the room without distorting. We choose the PA based on the space and the number of guests, and position it so the sound is spread evenly. That way the band stays clearly audible everywhere and you keep a grip on sound and intelligibility all the way to the back of the room.
On stage, everything revolves around monitoring. Musicians play together based on what they hear, so a good monitor mix is just as important as the sound in the room. We work with wedges or in-ears, depending on what the band is used to, and set up per musician what needs to be in the monitor.
Setup, soundcheck and the mix
Before the performance we build up the complete set: PA, monitoring, microphones for vocals and instruments, and DI boxes for guitar, bass and keys. Then comes a soundcheck with the band, in which we check every channel individually and set the balance and the monitor mix. During the performance our technician sits behind the mixing desk and adjusts live: the balance between instruments, the level of the vocals and stepping in the moment a microphone threatens to feed back. Stage and the complete picture
Band sound comes into its own best on a sharp-looking stage. We can combine the sound with a well-finished stage and finishing, so the band not only sounds great but also looks great up there. If you want visuals or atmospheric lighting to go with it, we also provide lighting that moves along with the performance, or we project onto a large screen. Do you also provide the band or musicians themselves?
No, we take care of the sound engineering: PA, monitoring, microphones, DI boxes and a technician. You arrange the band or cover band yourself, and we make sure it sounds great.
How do you know which microphones and DI boxes are needed?
We put the set together based on the band's line-up. Let us know how many vocalists there are and which instruments are playing, and we will choose the right microphones and the number of DI boxes and channels.
What is the difference between monitoring with wedges and in-ears?
Wedges are speakers on the floor pointed towards the musicians, while in-ears are earpieces with a personal mix. In-ears give a cleaner stage sound and less trouble with feedback. We discuss beforehand what suits your band best.
Can you combine the band sound with speakers or background music?
Yes. Alongside the band sound, the technician can also handle microphones for a presenter and music between the sets, so the evening flows as a whole.
