Technology that supports interaction

A workshop is not a presentation where participants only listen. Things get explained, watched, discussed and worked on, often in changing configurations. That dynamic places its own demands on the technology: the facilitator has to be able to grab attention at any moment, while the layout must never stand in the way of working in groups. If the image freezes or the facilitator fades out halfway across the room, it breaks the energy of the session.

HuurAV provides the audiovisual support for workshops and interactive sessions in Amsterdam and the surrounding area. We deliberately keep the setup practical, so you can focus on the content and the participants instead of on buttons. No technical knowledge is required.

Screen, sound and layout tuned to each other

For a workshop, the screen is the facilitator’s working surface. On a large screen or projection we show slides, assignments and videos, placed in a position that is easy to follow from every workspace. We think along about the angle and the size, so participants at the side see the image clearly too. If you want to supply or add your own material, it connects seamlessly to our video equipment.

The sound is at least as important. In an interactive session the facilitator’s voice comes alternately from the front and from among the groups, and videos need to be clearly audible everywhere. We tune the sound setup so the facilitator and the source material come across clearly everywhere, with a wireless microphone that gives freedom of movement and, where needed, extra microphones for the input of participants.

Around all of this we make sure the layout supports working in groups. We look in advance at the room, the numbers and the way you want to alternate between plenary explanation and group work, so the placement of the screen and sound fits accordingly.

Set-up, testing and on-site support

We start with a short review of your programme and the room. Based on that, a clear proposal follows. On the day itself we set up well before the start, connect your source material, test a video with sound and check whether the facilitator can be heard clearly everywhere with the microphone. That way everything is set up and tested before the first participant walks in. Where desired we provide technical support during the session, so transitions between segments run smoothly.

One thing to watch out for in a workshop is the switching of working formats. We discuss in advance at which moments you move from plenary explanation to group work and back again, so the image and sound follow along without interruption and the rhythm of the session is preserved.
