What a strobe light does

A strobe light is a fixture that gives short, bright flashes of light in very rapid succession. Between those flashes it is almost dark, so your eye keeps seeing a brief snapshot rather than a continuous image. On a dance floor this produces a striking effect: people who move appear to jump between separate poses, as if their movement were cut into individual frames.
